Nikifor Mazaraki

Nikifor Mazaraki was a distinguished Greek physician and public figure who, alongside his brother Kharlampiy Mazaraki, played a vital role in advancing public health in 19th-century Jerusalem. At a time when the region was plagued by widespread infectious diseases such as malaria, the Mazaraki brothers stood out for their dedication, professionalism, and humanistic approach to medicine. Their medical work went far beyond treating individual patients. They became known for pioneering community-based health strategies, which earned them widespread respect among local populations of various ethnicities and faiths. Their methods were so effective that locals referred to their medical approach as the "Mazaraki ritual."
